Former United States President Jimmy Carter visited Central on April 16th, 1985 to deliver a speech as part of the Robert C. Vance Lecture Series. President Carter's speech, entitled "American Leadership in a Changing World," was presented in Kaiser Hall.
After his presentation, President Carter was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humane Letters (the first ever awarded by the University) by President F. Don James, Vice President for Academic Affairs H.B. Jestin and Executive Dean Richard L. Judd.
