Providing visual and communication supports within performing arts and recreational events can promote the inclusion and acceptance of multiple methods of communication. This session will review a core communication board and visual supports implemented at a performing arts center to support patrons before and after events. A case example will be shared and utilized during the session to illustrate the impacts of integrated supports for an individual with complex communication and sensory needs. Participants will also learn about modeling techniques to promote communication and enhance the experience for all patrons. During the session, a variety of tools to create communication and visual supports will be previewed. The end of the session will provide an opportunity to create a visual or communication support and brainstorm its implementation. Finally, all supports created will be shared and the implementation of these supports will be discussed.
